I have no idea what you did but if you have not already solved this prob. i suggest right clicking on computer(in the start menu)>manage>Disk Management. If your hard drive is not physically trashed or fried you should see it under the section here. If it says Unallocated or free space right click on it and assign it a path. If this does not work then your drive is most likely fried by xp

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / Problems and Solutions
Forum thread: Lost hard drive space

Try these solutions: 1. If you do not allready have a virus program buy or find a free one (you can also install a trial of nortron). Scan your computer and fix all problems

2. install a new nvidia driver like this one "http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/24003-forceware-185-85/", to clear your driver I recomend driver sweeper. search for it on google or yahoo to install

3. If neither of these steps work right click computer>manage>Disk Management*. look in the status column and check if everything there says "healthy" if not then reply telling me waht it says.

*WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING IN HERE

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / Problems and Solutions
Forum thread: Hardrive problem

Hello everybody

I am new of this forum.

I would need some help by you guys.

I have been happy of my Asus G1S for the last two years. Actually, since a couple of weeks I am having big probles:

Windows (VISTA 32 bit) keeps shutting down my pc showing a blue screen in which it says that there is problem.

By running the diagnostic tool, Windows says I have an hardware problem.
So I tried to reinstall VISTA two times…but it happens always the same thing after some minutes.

Note that, when the machine doesn't turn off by itself, it gets really slow in downloading and installing the Vista updates.
Do you say my pc is fucked up or is there a hope to recovery it?

Please help me

Bye

Andrea

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / Problems and Solutions
Forum thread: Hardrive problem

the upper post is wrong. after 4 hours of playing far cry2 it started again to shutter.
so i googled a time and found a real solution … working for many hours of gaming.
at first you have to clean up your fan of your graphic card and remove every dust (open the silver tape , under it is a lot of dust)
then you could remove tape at the cover (there are may rips). know there's more air for the fan.
at least you have to install the 177.79 driver from laptopvideo2go.com
just go into standyby an after this is goes upper than 96 and you can play without lag.
after tuning and removing some things i ve got an temp of 93 after playing a lot
i

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / Problems and Solutions
Forum thread: My G1s is too hot, GPU is 96°, ASUS let me wait since 4 month!

Yeah very nice results. I still haven't found a game I can't play, but for Crysis I had to lower resolution (800 x 600) and play with high graphics settings (although with 2x antialising). COD 4 performed very well on 1024 x 768 and so Far Cry 2 (I'm mentioning only heavy duty games). Also I play Medieval 2 on very high with max resolution. The only game with low fps is Empire: Total War, but with the new patch (1.3) I'm expecting much better performance. I've heard that Arma 2 is the heaviest game now in the market, and I wonder if anyone here has tried it. Anyway I'll buy it next week maybe and report you guys the results.

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / Gaming with Asus G1S
Forum thread: Satisfied with your G1S gaming experience?

I don't think the bad performance is related to the operating system. I have Vista, and when I switch to battery mode, the performance goes down considerably. When the laptop switches to battery, it limits the usage of power to the cpu or gpu, so don't expect to play heavy games in battery mode (even though Tomb Rider Anniversary isn't Crysis, it still has this generation graphics).

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / Windows XP on Asus G1S
Forum thread: bad performance in gaming with battery power supply

I have the same problem. I was trying to play NFS MW, but it was workin' good only for 5 minutes, and then lagging all the time. Maybe should I change drivers? Anyone tried cooling pad? I have no idea what to do. I bought it as gaming laptop, but it's working worse than my friends ATI mobility 3470 or Ati mobility 2600XT. In the first test in 3dmark06 I have 4400 3dmarks, but when I do 2nd or third test it's going under 4000.
I too have the same issue.

In both Windows XP and Vista, the Realtek Control Panel shows a headset plugged in even though there isn't.
Newer versions of the Realtek High Def driver in Linux, both Alsa and OSS, show the same.

I loaded an older version of linux and the speakers work fine.

Given the above, it appears that the Realtek chipset that detects insertion of a headset has shorted in the plugged-in position. Drivers that have no plug detection work correctly as the internal mechanics of the port still function correctly. The only thing to do is replace the mobo, but an RMA is not doable for me at this point. I hope that Realtek, in a future driver, returns the option to turn off autodetection. This would solve the problem from what I can tell.

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / Problems and Solutions
Forum thread: Audio Woes

Hey Domi,

I've had the same problem for months now with my Asus G1-S B1. At 96 degrees it starts to give me this pulsating lag/stutter. ASUS KNOWS this is a known flaw in their design, but I have no idea what they are doing to handle this problem!

I have tried almost every single driver and downclocked it a few times. Now I think my only option is to buy a serious cooling pad and try that out. I hear the Zalman one is good.
Please let me know what ASUS tells you after your 4th RMA and let them know that they released a flawed product.

GL

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / Problems and Solutions
Forum thread: My G1s is too hot, GPU is 96°, ASUS let me wait since 4 month!

Hi I've recently followed the tutorial page about the iDeneb 1.3 way of installing MacOSx86 on my G1S but I'm quite disapointed by the time it take between the beginning of the bootloader process and the login windows…
About 1min and 10sec : 40sec on the grey apple loading screen and then 30 other seconds on the blue screen before the login windows pop's up…

I've choosen the iDeneb way because It seemed to be really less long and difficult than the kalyway way on the other wiki post…I just had difficulties with the audio driver because the wiki page redirect to a broken post without link to download files that is needed, but except that It's a quite good working distribution for our G1S once it's fully loaded…(except cam, battery time?,standby…)

I had a talk with a guy on another forum who have installed the kalyway 10.5.2 distribution and who told me he didn't have to do any customization during the install process just click "next" and it's working properly no audio driver installation needed just had to install nvidia drivers and that's all…And he also talked about a very fast loading compared to me…about less than 30sec to have macOS loaded !

I'm wondering about reinstalling his way, but i'm just hesitating with this older release without last apple updates (he told me he installed the 10.5.6 update but keyboard and mouse didn't work anymore…so he came back to his previous install)

Do you have same feedback as me with the iDeneb 1.3 (and maybe solution to my problem?)and what about the other way to install MacOS on G1S…
The other guy told me he tried several distributions but kalaway 10.5.2 was the only one that worked "out of the box"…
Do you have feedback with iDeneb 1.4, or other distrib than the wiki ones?

The wiki doesn't seem to be really up to date, and especially with really usefull and basic tips such as keyboard layout…

thanks for your answers

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / General Discussion
Forum thread: MacOS 10.5.5 iDeneb 1.3 Way - Long boot time...

Hey Guys

Sry for my english, i learn just school english and i'm from switzerland…

to my problem.

my g1s goes to 96°(GPU) and then, afer 15min i think, it goes laggy. the FPS is over 50, but its just lagging.

so i called the asus support since 4 months. the first RMA, they cleaned it, but the gpu is after this on 96°. so i made another RMA, at this, they had change the hardware(MB, GPU, and all cooling stuff), but the gpu is on 96° again and goes down with fps.

so made another RMA, the 3rd one(!), they looked for the g1s and say, the problem is the application "Tune UP" but this was installed after the second RMA.

so i made the 4th RMA. At this one, they changed the hardware again, a new "generation" MB and the GPU 9500gs with 512mb. now i'm here, and the GPU is again 96°, but it doesn't go down with the fps at 96°, it's going to laggy after 15min. and the procesor(CPU) is on 80°.

so i want ask you, whats your temperatures of GPU and CPU with furmark??

after that, i took the phone and call ASUS in germany. they made me a solution. i should make a RMA, than they take the notebook, it goes to SwissIT Repair, they send it to ASUS nederlands, and they will look for this problem, is it there, they will give me the money back, BUT i'm just at the RMA, because ASUS doesnt answer me. i'm waiting for another 6 weeks now. on the phone they just say, "yeah we make it now".

i dont know what i should do? pls help me.

THX

Vista is just fresh installed, drivers are new(the old driver didn't work too, at the moment, is 178.xx installed)
the fan goes up.

GREEZ

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / Problems and Solutions
Forum thread: My G1s is too hot, GPU is 96°, ASUS let me wait since 4 month!

I successfully installed MAC OSX. I found it nice at first, but it wasn't the same since you don't have internet or a command button. Yeah you can set another key to act as the command button, but it's not the same. The other thing that bugged me was there is no track pad like on a mac. Once you try a mac's trackpad, you want your touchpad to have similar functions.

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / General Discussion
Forum thread: Mac Os X - Leopard

In September I'll have my Asus G1S for two years. So far I haven't had any problems. Recently I upgraded it a little. I replaced the 160GB hard drive with the Hitachi 7K320 (320GB) hard drive. I've also replaced the memory and made it 4GB. Overall I haven't had any problems with the laptop except that it gets a quite hot, but thats normal for this laptop. On my old hard drive I installed Windows 7 and downloaded the 64 bit drivers. Everything seems to run normal, but I haven't really had too much time to mess with it.

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / General Discussion
Forum thread: new G1S owner

I have a G1S from 1 1/2 years ago. I have so far had 2 motherboard malfunctions. ASUS has replaced the motherboard with a G1SN board both times, but since New Years I have been without my laptop for over a month total time, and quite frankly I'm super pissed as ASUS and want to take advantage of them as much as possible. I'm still having random problems with the computer, but since there isn't anything major wrong with it they won't fix it, and the last time I shipped it to ASUS they refused to give me a replacement system. If I can find a way to blow up the motherboard once more, though, then I am eligible for a replacement system. My question is what is the best way to break the motherboard or GPU without an ASUS tech knowing I fucked with it? Thanks for the help!

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / Problems and Solutions
Forum thread: How to break my motherboard

Hi,

I'm interested in installing OS X on my G1S. I currently have XP SP3 x86. For anyone that has installed Mac OS X, or has attempted what I want to do, can you still boot into the XP portion of the hdd? Is there some kind of bootloader?

Also, in the future, I want to quad boot when I buy a new harddrive for the laptop. I'm planning on using using XP SP3 x86, Vista Business x64, a linux distro and OS X.
If anyone has any experience with quad booting, could you please tell me in what order I should install the OS's? I read online that XP & Vista should be installed first, followed by OSX and linux last.

Thanks for any help

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / General Discussion
Forum thread: Mac Os X - Leopard

For undervolt the Asus G1S is very simple, just download RMClock, and put these VID in the 12.0x FID: 1.0125v, and activate it in the maximal performance profile, mine works much more cooler with this, but i'm using right now the 10.0x FID with VID = 0.9375v.
The performance it's a little less, but my processor now is idlying at 48º / 50º.

Any question give me a call :P

Forum category: Hidden / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Undervolting Your Asus G1S

Hi,

Unfortunately G1S and G1Sn BIOS's are *not* compatible. Worse, it seems that there is no updated BIOS available for G1Sn. See Bios for G1Sn and G1S in Asus Forum.

So, it seems that you need to operate your G1Sn with 2GB or 3GB of RAM. Having 3GB is not that bad after all, when using a 32-bit operating system. Yes, I know, it bugs anyway not being able to use full 4GB of RAM.

Br,
- Tomi

Forum category: Hidden / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Fedora 10

I know this thread hasn't had any posts for awhile but for those that will check this in the future the G Skill RAM kit listed above is a perfect match. I purchased this for my G1S along with Western Digital 320G 7,200rpm SATA Scorpio Black Hard Drive and a copy of Vista Ultimate 64bit. This notebook came to life after these upgrades. Vista sees all 4G's of RAM and the hard drive is smoking fast. After careful install of Vista and the drivers the system seemed to come alive. The only thing I'm missing is a place to purchase backup parts like the GPU and Motherboard. This notebook runs very nice and with ventilation upgrades the cooling is where it should be but I know the 8600M GT is part of the nvidia lead-dot problem and are prone to failure after awhile. The only fix that I've seen for this is to replace the motherboard, unfourtunetly I can't find one anywhere. Every other part is listed at the asus store but the motherboards are not in stock.

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / Upgrading Your Asus G1S
Forum thread: Hard Drive & Memory upgrade.

OK, I've been to the Asus store and they have no mainboards for sale. Where in the world can I find the mainboard/ motherboard for the G1S or is there another compatible one? I know the 8600M suffers from the lead dots syndrome and the only fix is replacing the motherboard.
There are lots of good stuff on the forum that are wiki-worthy. May be the admin can consider moving some stuff. you can also delegate people on different sections. as for me, I am free for the christmas vacation. I'll be more than happy to help out. the only thing I don't like is the wiki coding. I am more of a wysiwyg guy. so, if you know of any application that converts wysiwyg to wiki format, that would make it a little bit easier.

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / Suggestions for Asus G1S Wiki
Forum thread: Move some contect from the forum to wiki?

I'd recommend my fellow G!Sers (gisers- those who game on G1S/G-series) to use DOX's drivers for GTA IV. As for the version number, there is a reason they bring out a new version of a driver. I'd go for the latest version. If you see any problem, you can always roll-back.
Here you can find DOX's drivers:
Dox's Customized Forceware Releases

Forum category: Asus G1S Wiki Forum / Gaming with Asus G1S
Forum thread: GTA IV on G1S

Updated December 8th 2008

How to interpret the results:
The SM2 + HDR scores show the most reliable performance results in 3DMark06. Real world game results may differ from 3D Mark 06 results so you can also base your opinion of which driver is best off of the real-world game results. If you are unsure or picky about drivers then I suggest you install the driver with the highest version number; they have higher version numbers for a reason - even if performance is similar they tend to have more compatibility/ stability/ performance fixes. If the latest drivers give you problems then explore for yourself which ones you think are best, or ask someone!

No overclocking used. System tested on is to the left. Benched using 1280x800 no AA

(VISTA64) Sorted by Driver Version - Lowest to Highest:

(VISTA64) Sorted by SM2 + HDR Score - Lowest to Highest:

Counter-Strike: Source is tested with recommended settings, no AA using proprietary benchmark (VIDEO STRESS TEST in game menu)
Half-Life 2: Lost Coast is tested with recommended settings, no AA using proprietary benchmark (VIDEO STRESS TEST in game menu)
Crysis is tested with medium settings, no AA using proprietary GPU benchmark (Benchmark_GPU.bat in Bin32 folder)
The scores represent the average number of frames per second

(VISTA64) GAME BENCHMARKS - Sorted by Driver Version:

I try not to be lazy so I will bench any drivers you request and show the results happy.gif
If you do request make sure there is a Vista 64-bit version of it with an available modified inf!

Updates:
*July 14th 08:
added 176.04
added 175.63, 177.66, and 174.74 - requested by blueice
added sort by driver version and sort by 3DMark06 Score
added 169.02, 169.04, 175.16, and 175.19 - requested by john
*July 15th 08:
added 174.93 and 169.61
*July 30th 08
added 177.70 and 177.72 - requested by coolcop06
added 177.73 and 177.79
*August 1st 08
added 176.04 and 175.95 - requested by anonymous
*August 8th 08
Oops, I accidentally highlighted 177.66 as XP and not Vista.
