Deleted recovery partition

I, being the "genius" that i am, deleted my recovery partition (not knowing what it was) a month ago and replaced it to dual boot with Ubuntu. I am now wishing i had looked at the partition more carefully. My rescources that might be usefull fixing this problem are: Vista x64 install disc (legit. but not the asus recovery disc), 1tb ext. hard drive, internet acess, and a decent knowledge of vista and hard drive browsing. My computer is a asus G1Sn (if that really matters). Please help me get my recovery partition back.

Ps. if it is possible to get my vista recovery partition back i was wondering if i could also install a win7 recovery partition.

Hello everybody

I am new of this forum.

I would need some help by you guys.

I have been happy of my Asus G1S for the last two years. Actually, since a couple of weeks I am having big probles:

Windows (VISTA 32 bit) keeps shutting down my pc showing a blue screen in which it says that there is problem.

By running the diagnostic tool, Windows says I have an hardware problem.
So I tried to reinstall VISTA two times…but it happens always the same thing after some minutes.

Note that, when the machine doesn't turn off by itself, it gets really slow in downloading and installing the Vista updates.
Do you say my pc is fucked up or is there a hope to recovery it?

Please help me

Bye

Andrea

Hi I've recently followed the tutorial page about the iDeneb 1.3 way of installing MacOSx86 on my G1S but I'm quite disapointed by the time it take between the beginning of the bootloader process and the login windows…
About 1min and 10sec : 40sec on the grey apple loading screen and then 30 other seconds on the blue screen before the login windows pop's up…

I've choosen the iDeneb way because It seemed to be really less long and difficult than the kalyway way on the other wiki post…I just had difficulties with the audio driver because the wiki page redirect to a broken post without link to download files that is needed, but except that It's a quite good working distribution for our G1S once it's fully loaded…(except cam, battery time?,standby…)

I had a talk with a guy on another forum who have installed the kalyway 10.5.2 distribution and who told me he didn't have to do any customization during the install process just click "next" and it's working properly no audio driver installation needed just had to install nvidia drivers and that's all…And he also talked about a very fast loading compared to me…about less than 30sec to have macOS loaded !

I'm wondering about reinstalling his way, but i'm just hesitating with this older release without last apple updates (he told me he installed the 10.5.6 update but keyboard and mouse didn't work anymore…so he came back to his previous install)

Do you have same feedback as me with the iDeneb 1.3 (and maybe solution to my problem?)and what about the other way to install MacOS on G1S…
The other guy told me he tried several distributions but kalaway 10.5.2 was the only one that worked "out of the box"…
Do you have feedback with iDeneb 1.4, or other distrib than the wiki ones?

The wiki doesn't seem to be really up to date, and especially with really usefull and basic tips such as keyboard layout…

thanks for your answers

Hey Guys

Sry for my english, i learn just school english and i'm from switzerland…

to my problem.

my g1s goes to 96°(GPU) and then, afer 15min i think, it goes laggy. the FPS is over 50, but its just lagging.

so i called the asus support since 4 months. the first RMA, they cleaned it, but the gpu is after this on 96°. so i made another RMA, at this, they had change the hardware(MB, GPU, and all cooling stuff), but the gpu is on 96° again and goes down with fps.

so made another RMA, the 3rd one(!), they looked for the g1s and say, the problem is the application "Tune UP" but this was installed after the second RMA.

so i made the 4th RMA. At this one, they changed the hardware again, a new "generation" MB and the GPU 9500gs with 512mb. now i'm here, and the GPU is again 96°, but it doesn't go down with the fps at 96°, it's going to laggy after 15min. and the procesor(CPU) is on 80°.

so i want ask you, whats your temperatures of GPU and CPU with furmark??

after that, i took the phone and call ASUS in germany. they made me a solution. i should make a RMA, than they take the notebook, it goes to SwissIT Repair, they send it to ASUS nederlands, and they will look for this problem, is it there, they will give me the money back, BUT i'm just at the RMA, because ASUS doesnt answer me. i'm waiting for another 6 weeks now. on the phone they just say, "yeah we make it now".

i dont know what i should do? pls help me.

THX

Vista is just fresh installed, drivers are new(the old driver didn't work too, at the moment, is 178.xx installed)
the fan goes up.

GREEZ

I have a G1S from 1 1/2 years ago. I have so far had 2 motherboard malfunctions. ASUS has replaced the motherboard with a G1SN board both times, but since New Years I have been without my laptop for over a month total time, and quite frankly I'm super pissed as ASUS and want to take advantage of them as much as possible. I'm still having random problems with the computer, but since there isn't anything major wrong with it they won't fix it, and the last time I shipped it to ASUS they refused to give me a replacement system. If I can find a way to blow up the motherboard once more, though, then I am eligible for a replacement system. My question is what is the best way to break the motherboard or GPU without an ASUS tech knowing I fucked with it? Thanks for the help!

OK, I've been to the Asus store and they have no mainboards for sale. Where in the world can I find the mainboard/ motherboard for the G1S or is there another compatible one? I know the 8600M suffers from the lead dots syndrome and the only fix is replacing the motherboard. You never know and I love my G1S and was wanting to make sure I could find a backup motherboard in case it ever happens to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are lots of good stuff on the forum that are wiki-worthy. May be the admin can consider moving some stuff. you can also delegate people on different sections. as for me, I am free for the christmas vacation. I'll be more than happy to help out. the only thing I don't like is the wiki coding. I am more of a wysiwyg guy. so, if you know of any application that converts wysiwyg to wiki format, that would make it a little bit easier.

I'd recommend my fellow G!Sers (gisers- those who game on G1S/G-series) to use DOX's drivers for GTA IV. As for the version number, there is a reason they bring out a new version of a driver. I'd go for the latest version. If you see any problem, you can always roll-back.
Here you can find DOX's drivers:
Dox's Customized Forceware Releases

Updated December 8th 2008

How to interpret the results:
The SM2 + HDR scores show the most reliable performance results in 3DMark06. Real world game results may differ from 3D Mark 06 results so you can also base your opinion of which driver is best off of the real-world game results. If you are unsure or picky about drivers then I suggest you install the driver with the highest version number; they have higher version numbers for a reason - even if performance is similar they tend to have more compatibility/ stability/ performance fixes. If the latest drivers give you problems then explore for yourself which ones you think are best, or ask someone!

No overclocking used. System tested on is to the left.
Anyone running Ubuntu 8.10 yet ?
Have been using 8.10 since it release..
Allmost all things work straight from installation.
The WIFI support is great and runs smoothly.
The only things that won't work straight away are the led lights, but that's ok with me.
One of the things I didn't get to work is the working of the fan.
It runs, even with the CPU on 800mhz, like a freighttrain.

I have the strangest problem with my Asus G1s, it even has the local Asus maintenance guy buffled.

When watching DVD's the optical drive emits quite a loud noise like "tweek-tweek-tweek-tweek" like the head would be constantly moving. The sound emits 1-2 times per second, depending on what part of the movie is being accessed. This is constant behavior on all DVD's, I've tried maybe 40 disks.

We changed the optical drive to a similar one, no help. Then we tried a completele different model, same problem.

So it's either software based, or we have to change the motherboard (which takes a few weeks). Any ideas?

Ok, Ive tried allsorts before comming here and starting this thread. Ive been having some strange issues whenever i try and plug in cetrain USB devices. It started when i decided to plug my ipod into my laptom G1s as id been using my desktop previously, the usual stuff comes up, "new hardware recognised" attemting to locate drivers etc. Eventualy it says that it cannot find the drivers, so i then proceedd to download the lastest version of itunes, my ipod worked once, untill i unplugged it and plugged it in again and vista said it couldnot locate the drivers etc, even when i did a manual search.
The same happens when i plug in my Kingston memory stick, saying it cannot locate or install any drivers even when ive downloaded some driver fixes. Although when i plugged a friends cheapo memory stick in it works perfectly!
My phone is recognised and syncs up perfectly with active sync, but my tomtom does not work, with or without the tomotom software installed!

IM really qhite stuck and not sure what else to do, ive tried searching and downloading relevant drivers for the devices that donot work, and going into the device manager and scanning for hardware changes etc…everything i can think of but they just dont want to work on my laptop although they all work on my desktop which is running XP!

Anyone had any similar issues or know of any fixes to get round this annoying problem, or am i doing something completely stupid! Help anyone!

Cheers

Andy

I RMAd my B1 last week, (wouldn't power on) They replaced the MB, I got it back a week later and all was good with the world.

Today, my audio speakers stopped working. However:

The Headphone jack still works. I can listen via headphones or external speakers.
The POST sound effect *does* play through the laptop speakers on start up.
All "Sound" control panel and mixer settings are good. Green checkmarks on Speakers. But it doesn't seem to detect new plug-ins on the headphone port; it does detect plug-ins to the Mic and Input ports.

Since the POST sound effect works, I suspect it's an OS problem- and I've already tried to reinstall the Realtek drivers- no dice.

Any suggestions?

Asus G1S-B1, Core 2 Duo T7700, 4GB RAM, 8600M GT, Vista Ultimate x64 SP1.

Hi everyone

I'm new in this forum but i bring a question, hopping someone can help me.
My machine is: Asus G1S - processor 7700 - 8600m GT - 2G Ram DDR2 667 - WXGA+ - Win Vista Ultimate 32

The machine works pretty well during normal using, working etc, but I'm facing some problems when i play. Currently i have instaled the nvidia drivers 174.31 (lap2go modded drivers) and I'm using Unreal Tournament 3 in offline mode, to test the performance. At beggining, the game is running quite smoothly at 40 fps or something like that, even with graphics almost at maximum and with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768.

But 5 minutes after the game starts , the performance starts dropping. Its the first time i see something like this. The game starts losing its smoothness and starts to give some breaks like a clock.
I've already tested in other games like call of duty 2 and Need for Speed Underground 2 and the problem stil persists. It's weird because the first 5 minutes the games is running super nice and after that the performance drops.

I've also instaled an extra cooling board under the laptop, to help rid of the heat…

I've been questionning myself the reason. Is it because of the drivers? To much heat due to the nice performance? RAM ? Vista? i really dont know…

Can someone could give me a clue 'bout the problem?

thanks -
Dross_PT

Hey, just wanted to let everyone know that you can install Leopard on a G1S, it is a tricky process. Wireless card is not yet supported but sound and the 8600M GT is supported at 1680x1050. It looks cool, runs nicely…I dont know much about Mac OS though so I just installed it to see whats up. LAN card does work so you can get internet access. If you are interested in installing OS X give me a reply.

Well yeah.. I've installed 2008 and installed most of the drivers pretty smoothly.. Altho there's one that doesnt really work.. ATK Hotkey.. Which is pretty important imo since i cant change powermode, turn touchpd on/off fast or stuff, when im ingame or such.. I installs smoothly but then when it starts at boot, it just says "HControl has stopped working". I tried to put it into XP SP2 Comptability which kinda semi-worked (not with the touchpad key or the power4 gear key" but everything else worked.. but those are the two things i need lol… if anybody has tried out 2008 and made this work.. please help me!

thanks

(PS - 2008 owns Vista)

Hi,
I installed xp via the thread on this post and it works great. Thanks to all for this great resource. I'm doing a dual boot with the XP partition to be used strictly for audio recording software. The final decision in buying the g1s was the e-sata port for fast hard drive seek times without bottleneck of usb or firewire.
The e-sata drivers work ok in Vista (although they seem a little unstable at times)
The drivers do not work at all in XP (Upon boot the mouse freezes up for minutes at a time then will unfreeze for a second then freeze up again).

I am running bios 3.0. and I have upgraded to 4 gigs of ram. I set hard drive to enhanced mode in the bios. My external drive is a Western Digital Mybook. I tried reinstalling the drivers with out any luck.

I'm thinking it could be the e-sata cord. Not likely, but an idea.
I was also considering changing the irq settings so that the e-sata was not in conflict with any other devises(like the mouse). I tried to get into the devise manager and change the irq settings but haven't done so because I forget how to do it and I don't really know if this a good idea or not.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Have suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Poppifree

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have successfully installed Windows Server 2008 x64 on my G1S-B2. It uses the Vista x64 drivers from the Asus site. I like it much more than Vista, it seems to run faster and is much less bloated. I've installed COD4 and GoW, they run fine.

60 day trial of W2k8 is avail at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/trial-software.aspx
You can run the slmgr -rearm every 60 days to renew the trial, just like Vista.

I tried installing both Chicony and D-Max, the latter failed to install. I presume mine is Chicony.
Any suggestions?
Thank you guys anyway, found usefull your work.

Hi folks,

Personally I'm pleased to say that all the games I've played on my G1S perform really well with most (if not all) the graphic features and resolution (that depends on the game) being Crysis the most intensive (or badly coded) game of them all.

However, I can play Crysis at 1280x800 with all set to medium specs and get an average of 25 fps, which is not bad for a sub $1500 dollar machine right?

Games like Half Life 2 Episode 1 and 2 and Portal I can play them in full resolution (1680x1050) with all set to the highest settings at a very comfortable 30 FPS!

Call of Duty 4 is another example of a nice game on the Asus G1S, which in my experience was capable of playing it at 1280x800 full effects at about 30 FPS too.

What are your experiences so far?

I'm hoping that Alan Wake will play smooth on the G1S too… Here's hoping. :)

Cheers!
Rayan

I figured I might start there first.

I was looking at G-Skill's 4GB upgrade kit (F2-5300CL4D-4GBSQ since it has the lowest CAS latency (4) I figured that might be a good start.
(New Egg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231154)

For the hard drive: TOSHIBA MK2546GSX 250GB
(New Egg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822149070)

or the HITACHI Travelstar 7K200 200GB (New Egg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145160)

Anyone have any opinions or other ideas to help?

Thanks!
